The CBC Executive Board (EB) held their monthly meeting in person at the CBC office in Fairmont, WV October 18-19. After opening devotions, the EB approved the Secretary’s minutes and Treasurer’s report. The EB elected officers for the new fiscal year as follows: Chair: Bro Grover Duling, Vice Chair: Bro Scott Kinnick, and Secretary: Bro George Bowers.
The EB approved two new congregations including Faith CBC in Salix, PA and Rocky Mount in Rocky Mount, VA. One pastor was ordained and five individual members were welcomed. This brings total CBC congregations to 152 and 191 individuals approved for credentialing. The EB also updated national CBC committee assignments and heard the latest plans for the 2025 Annual Meeting and Worship Conference (AMWC) which will be held July 17-19 at Greensboro, NC.
Various committees also gave reports and the Ministerial Leadership Committee reminded all that most CBC ministers’ credentials expire at the end of 2025 and that many ministers will also need ethics training which will be offered at the 2025 AMWC. The Board also heard reports about exciting developments in the regions. In addition, all congregations are encouraged to submit articles to Bro Craig Howard for sharing throughout the denomination.
One of the highlights of this meeting was a Board Retreat that reminded all Board members about the CBC Statement of Faith. Different Board members led examinations of the CBC Beliefs, CBC Affirmations, and polity decisions, as well as overseas churches and Board ethics. The EB interspersed their work with worship and music.
There was a joint meeting with the Regions’ Covenant Circle and a general appreciation was expressed for the emphasis on worship at both the national Annual Meeting and Worship Conference as well as at regional conferences. The importance of diligently ensuring that this continues was underscored.
Another highlight was Bro Scott Kinnick’s update on CBC congregations in Africa of which 50 are new church plants! CBC has congregations in Rwanda, Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Tanzania, and Uganda. Inquiries continue to come from other countries. The Board approved funds to help our African brothers and sisters achieve official recognition by their nations’ governments.
Bro Jeremy Dykes shared examples of ways that God is moving powerfully in the flood recovery. Many people have accepted Jesus as Savior through continuing ministry to families and individuals impacted by the severe tragedy. God is able to work all things, including disasters, together for good for those who love Him and are the called according to His purpose.
After consultation with CBC technology directory, Bro Matt Bernard, the EB concluded their meeting with prayer before heading out in all directions for their homes. Thanks to each CBC member and congregation that prays for the Executive Board and please continue to lift us up.
