Samaritan’s Purse has notified us of the following construction project that will be opening up in June in Alaska. We will not be putting together a team but if you are able to participate, we encourage you to apply.
Assist with Mekoryuk, Alaska Church Construction
Background Information: Mekoryuk, AK Covenant Church is located on Nunivak Island in the Bering Sea, Mekoryuk is thirty miles west of the Alaskan coast. The current church has become unsafe and with a population of just over 200, the need for a new church structure is great.
Location: Mekoryuk, AK
Trip Dates: June 17 – October 6, 2024
Scheduling: Individuals who would like to schedule a trip should complete an application; teams only need to complete one application per group. Once you complete an application you will receive a phone to discuss scheduling, our goal is to honor all requests; however, due to limited space, we may not be able to schedule everyone who applies.
Length of Stay: 10 days, volunteers will travel to Alaska on Sunday and arrange their travel home on the following Tuesday.
Maximum Team Size: 13 members, both male and female volunteers will be accepted.
Skills Needed: Team members must be highly skilled in construction and have strong general construction knowledge. Team members must be willing to follow all safety guidelines and instructions provided by Samaritan’s Purse staff.
Cost: Volunteers cover the cost of and arrange airfare into Kenai, AK. Samaritan’s Purse staff will pick up volunteers at the Kenai, AK airport and transport you to our base camp in Soldotna, AK. Upon arrival to Soldotna, lodging and meals are provided at no charge. Volunteers will be transported to and from Mekoryuk, AK by Samaritan’s Purse plane on Mondays, weather permitting.
Minimum Age: Volunteers must be at least 18 years or older.
