Recently I had the Great privilege of visiting one of our CBC Churches in southeastern Kansas. The church we visited was the Osage Church and was filled with good Bible-following Christians. This church is on fire for the Lord reaching out to the community in many ways to share Jesus, being His hands and feet.
While I was there, it was decided that we would visit the “Brutus” museum. Now Brutus was built on sight in that part of Kansas to mine coal. As you can see in the picture, he is BIG, REAL BIG. For me, this was an experience of a lifetime. As I walked around, up in, and through this monster, I had to think to myself….”This is big, but how big is God?”
In contemplating the greatness of God, we encounter a theme that transcends our human understanding and stretches the boundaries of our imagination. Scripture is replete with references that invite us to ponder the vastness, power, and majesty of God, offering us a glimpse into His infinite nature and just how BIG God is.
The psalmist declares, “Great is our Lord and mighty in power; His understanding has no limit” Psalm 147:5 Here, we are reminded that God’s power is beyond measure. Unlike human strength, which is finite and limited, God’s power and size are boundless. His power is evident in the creation of the universe. Genesis 1:1 states, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” With mere words, God brought the entire cosmos into existence. The vast expanse of space, with its innumerable stars and galaxies, speaks to the infinite power of the Creator, and He created it all from nothing.
God’s omnipresence is another aspect of His size. Jeremiah 23:24 asks, “Can anyone hide in secret places so that I cannot see him? declares the Lord. Do not I fill heaven and earth?” God’s presence is not confined to any particular place; He is everywhere at all times. This truth is both comforting and awe-inspiring. In Psalm 139:7-10, David marvels, “Where can I go from Your Spirit? Where can I flee from Your presence? If I go up to the heavens, You are there; if I make my bed in the depths, You are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there Your hand will guide me, Your right hand will hold me fast.” God’s omnipresence assures us that we are never alone and that He is always with us, no matter where we go.
So, just how Big is our God? Well since he is omnipresent and is everywhere at once, and the universe He created is without end, He is endless in size. We need to think about that as we sometimes want to box Him in and limit Him.
Never forget, As Big as God is, He desires for each of us to have that personal relationship with Him.
