The CBC Annual Meeting and Worship Conference last month was incredible. Many have asked, “How can it keep getting better every year?” I want to attempt to answer that question based on my reflection of our time together and my belief in our statement of faith.
We met together as a group of born-again believers who hold to the inerrancy of Scripture. We believe the words in 2 Timothy, “16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for [a]instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NKJV) It is truly God’s Holy Word, and we stand boldly. The sermons delivered and teachings shared came from individuals who elevate the Word of God.
We gathered knowing that we serve an Almighty God. We believe in the Trinity. There is God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. In Genesis, we read, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was without form, and void; and darkness [a]was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.” Genesis 1:1-2(NKJV)
We stood together for worship, knowing we were created in the image of God. We also knew that we were separated from the Lord because of disobedience by Adam. Paul writes in Romans,” for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23 (NKJV) Then we look to Romans 5:8, “But God demonstrates His love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
God sent His Son to die on the cross for us to be saved. This ol’ county boy says, “Hallelujah, what a Savior!” We sang in that room together about His blood, His sacrifice. We prayed, asking for God to move in a mighty way, and He did.
We also proclaimed the Good News of Jesus’ glorious resurrection that allows us to live for eternity with Him. In 1 Corinthians, we find the promise, “But as it is written: ‘Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”10 But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.” 1 Corinthians 2:9-10 (NKJV)
Over 300 people gathered in the Koury Center confessing that we are the Church. To ponder that we are the Body, the Bride of Christ, should bring us to our knees in reverence. We stood together in one accord, like-minded, worshipping a Holy God. We proclaimed His goodness, and we left desiring to share the Good News.
Will the Annual meeting and worship conference get any better next year? I say “YES,” because “But Jesus looked at them and said to them, ‘With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Matthew 19:26 (NKJV)
