We were alerted that Samaritan’s Purse is looking for volunteers to assist with a rebuild project in Breathitt County, KY. Samaritan’s Purse is ministering in the aftermath of historic flooding across the eastern part of the state in fall 2022. Far beyond the physical help you will extend to the homeowners, the spiritual and emotional support you offer to them is even more important. Our rebuild volunteers will be rebuilding homes damaged during this storm.

We were also made aware of a rebuild project in Selma, Alabama. A tornado ripped through that community in January 2023. On January 12, a storm system spawned dozens of deadly tornadoes, tore off roofs and uprooted trees across the Southeast. Numerous communities and hundreds of homes were left in shambles.

Volunteers are responsible for their own transportation to the site. Meals and sleeping quarters will be provided. Volunteers need to bring twin size bedding, pillow, towels, and personal hygiene items. Tools will be provided, but volunteers may bring their own tool belts and small hand tools.

The rebuild projects are being scheduled up to four months in advance. We are looking for those with abilities to rebuild, but remember, no experience is needed for many jobs. As stated above, you might be able to extend spiritual and emotional support to the homeowners. Please pray for the families affected by these disasters, for the volunteers, and for the Samaritan’s Purse Organization. If you are interested in volunteering for any of these projects, contact Brenda Harvey at brendalharvey1@gmail.com or 301-616-1367 or Mark Teets at mteets@snowycreekdorset.com or 304-698-7197. We will begin the registration process.

Volunteers are still needed in Oklahoma and Arkansas.
