During the month of April the chilly winds of winter fade and the long nights give way to longer days. It is also a time when we begin to think of and make preparations for planting. There is a process that is followed that takes us from tilling the soil to harvest.
The ground has been turned — the seed has been planted — and appropriate fertilizer has been applied. The seed is now a plant and must be maintained/cultivated. The soil reworked, allowing the spiritual roots to grow and weeds removed to allow the plant to receive the full benefit of water, sun, and nutrient.
“The kingdom of God is as if a man should scatter seed on the ground, 27 and should sleep by night and rise by day, and the seed should sprout and grow, he himself does not know how. 28 For the earth yields crops by itself: first the blade, then the head, after that the full grain in the head. 29 But when the grain ripens, immediately he puts in the sickle, because the harvest has come.” (Mark 4:26-29 NKJV).
The Kingdom of God is about growth—lavish, abundant, unexpected growth. We have little control over the growth, but we are tasked with sowing seeds generously. Let us pray and be thankful that our God reigns and the timing of personal growth, congregational growth, and the growth of the Covenant Brethren Church is, as it should be, always in His time!
