Genesis 11:6
“The Lord said, ‘Behold, they are one people, and they all have the same language. And this is what they began to do, and now nothing which they purpose to do will be impossible for them. ‘“
The Bible tells us the story, (early in human history), when people began to work together to build a city. In that city they planned to build a tower that would reach into heaven. Their goal was to promote themselves. To show their self-sufficiency; their independence from God. In the Bible verse, even The Lord acknowledges the effectiveness of people working together. How much more would be possible if The Lord were also involved?
The Apostle Paul writes to the Philippian Church instructing them to: “being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose”. Philippians 2:2. One Christian person can accomplish much when working in the will of God, two Christians can do even more, the Church, and the Churches can do even greater things. This is certainly the strength of Christ’s Church. The Church working with one plan, one strategy, one mission, is the Church working as Christ has designed.
So, what is the mission of the Church? Many groups spend a great amount of effort trying to create a mission statement. Yet, Christ has already given us one: The Great Commission, “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit”. Let us strive to work together to do the will of God. To advance the gospel of Jesus Christ, with God’s help.
