On June 4th 2022, fourteen men of the Covenant Brethren Central Allegheny Regional Disaster response team met near Maysville, WV to repair the home of a lady in need of a new porch and ramp. A week before, the rescue squad had been called to her home to transport “Carol” (not her real name) to the hospital. As the Emergency Medical Services team walked onto her porch, they fell through the porch floor. It was so rotten it could no longer support their weight. With the porch in that condition, the EMS team determined it was not safe to remove her on a stretcher across the porch. They removed the rotted porch, backed the ambulance up to the front door, and removed her directly into the ambulance.

The 911 center then called Pastor Craig Howard, president of the local ministerial association and CBC pastor. He called Mark Teets, a member of the CBC’s Central Allegheny regional disaster team who in turn contacted other team members. In the end, fourteen men from five churches agreed upon a specific work day, and within a few hours of their arrival this new porch and ramp were constructed. The day ended in prayer with the family and big smiles and words of thanks.

God used this team as his tools to be a blessing to a family that had no way of meeting this need themselves. It was a day of laughter, blessing and wonderful fellowship. A day that gave glory to God and a good witness from the Covenant Brethren Church.
