This year at the Annual Meeting and Worship Conference of the Covenant Brethren Church, held at Fairmont State University in Fairmont WV on July 1st and 2nd, a very special service event is going to take place. We are going to reach out to the needy of that community with a conference food drive. This is to say thank you to the city of Fairmont for hosting our denomination as both our headquarters and conference, and as a witness to the love of our Savior.

As you enter the conference on Friday evening or Saturday morning, there will be a place for you to leave non-perishable food items to be donated to a local food pantry which serves that community.

When Jesus spoke of separating the sheep and the goats on the day of judgement, he told the sheep, “I was hungry and you fed me.” To the goats he said, “I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat”. When asked when they did that Jesus replied, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” James 2:17-18 says: “In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. But someone will say, ‘You have faith; I have deeds.’ Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds.”

So, bring your pancake mixes, spaghetti sauce, canned peaches, tubes of toothpaste, personal hygiene items, box of pasta, peanut butter, jelly, canned vegetables, canned soup, cake and brownie mixes, or any other non-perishable food items with you to the Annual Meeting and Worship Conference. The pantry we are partnering with cannot accept any home-canned foods. No doubt they would taste better, but for community distribution purposes home-canned foods are not considered safe. The pantry specifically told us they use a lot of peas and green beans, deodorant, body wash, hair brushes, razors and shaving cream for men and women.

Let’s show the City of Fairmont the people of CBC have a faith that works to the Glory of our Savior!
