2 Corinthians 7:9-10 Yet now I am happy, not because you were made sorry, but because your sorrow led you to repentance. For you became sorrowful as God intended and so were not harmed in any way by us. Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death. Father, just as You intended, let repentance fall on Covenant Brethren Church and let that repentance lead to our salvation and salvation to all who see! Revelation 2:6 – “Yet this you have: you hate the works of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate.” Lord, cause us to hate the works of the Nicolaitans! Let there be no mixture in our lives! In this day there is so much confusion about who You are. The world has made a graven image, formed from what is convenient to think about You. Father, You are the only true God! Help us to push through the clamor of this world, to behold the beauty of your holiness and therein to find contentment and remain! Oh, that we would never bring your Word down to our level or manipulate it for our private interpretation. 1 John 2:6 – “He that saith he abideth in Him ought himself also so to walk, even as He walked.” Holy God, Living Word, open our eyes to see that we are desperate for your Word. If we say we are Yours and are walking with You, cause us to hunger and thirst for You, the Word incarnate. Stir in our hearts a desire to feast on your Word, not merely consume it. Let us run to You in complete abandon and cling desperately to every Rhema Word that proceeds from Your mouth. Oh, what a blessed people to have the privilege of hearing your Holy Word not just daily but minute by minute. Draw us, oh Lord, by Your Holy Spirit deep into Your Word and let us remain! Psalm 133:1-3 – “How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity! It is as if the dew of Hermon were falling on Mount Zion.” Precious Heavenly Father, surprise us with the joy of unity! As we gaze into Your heart and seek with all of ours to obey You, to follow You, let us open our eyes to see that we are marching together, keeping time to Your celestial drum. Let that joy so overwhelm us that we never want to seek our own wills again…ever! Maybe you aren’t a preacher or teacher, but by your life … every single day … you are to be a witness to Christ. If an unchurched person asks you for prayer, or asks about your faith, are you ready to give a gentle, respectful answer? Pray for yourself that the Lord might give you witness opportunities and the courage and right ways to respond. “…go and make disciples of all nations….” Matthew 28:19 NIV This month, let’s set our hearts to prayer for the high calling of evangelism. In Jesus’ “Great Commission,” Jesus sends us to “all nations.” Early, as the Covenant Brethren Church developed, the Executive Board thought that our foreign mission endeavors would come a bit later as we got organized. But the Lord had different plans! He began to bring congregations to us! Today we have congregations in Rwanda, Democratic Republic of Congo, Tanzania, and Guatemala. Many of these congregations are very evangelistically centered, bringing new believers into the Kingdom. There are Brethren baptisms by trine immersion happening in places we couldn’t imagine! Pray for these far away CBC churches. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 - “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” Stop for a minute and think about these words. Does a true believer have any excuse for living a life of pessimism? How can life look any better for us than what we know we have? We have Jesus as our Savior and God, and His word is guiding the way. Matthew 6:2 – “Therefore, when you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.” Brothers and sisters, do not misunderstand these words. Let’s say that you have gone to a disaster site or to a location and did some service work for others. Share the excitement of that experience and let them know that they too can be of service to others. Sharing the joy of service will bring others to the cause and then they too can share with others. And there it goes, on and on and on.
