So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. — Colossians 2:6-7 (NIV)

Change is all around you right now — routines shift, days feel different, and new things are beginning. When schedules change it’s easy to feel unsteady, like a tree in a gust of wind. The Bible invites us to be rooted. Colossians tells us to live in Jesus, to be “rooted and built up in him.” Roots don’t stop a tree from moving; they keep it grounded so it can grow tall and bend without breaking.

Being rooted in Christ means starting small habits that connect you to God every day. It can be a short moment of prayer in the morning, reading a verse before bed, or choosing kindness when it’s hard. Those things are like roots: they aren’t flashy, but they give strength. When life pulls you different ways — new classes, new teams, new responsibilities — those simple habits help you stand firm.

Roots also connect you to others. Trees don’t grow alone; they share soil and sunlight. The people around you — friends, family, leaders — can encourage and help you grow. Don’t be afraid to ask for help, to share struggles, or to celebrate small wins together. God often uses community to remind us of his love and to help our faith grow.

Finally, being rooted lets you welcome fresh starts without fear. New seasons bring chances to learn, to try again, and to serve. When you’re built up in Christ, you can face new beginnings with confidence, knowing your value comes from God, not from a grade, a game, or someone else’s opinion. Let thankfulness overflow from your heart for what God has done and for the ways he’s growing you. Take one small step today — a prayer, a kind word, a moment with Scripture — and watch how roots grow into strength for the road ahead.

Prayer: Jesus, help me grow deep roots in you. Teach me small habits that keep me close to you, give me courage in new seasons, and surround me with people who encourage my faith. Fill me with thankfulness and strength to grow. Amen.
